Kendrick Lamar wins Pulitzer prize for album “Damn”

Kendrick Lamar has added another honor to his resume. In his latest win, Lamar has won a Pulitzer Prize for music for his latest album damn.  The fourth L.P from Lamar felt short of winning album of the year in January but is now in a prestigious category. Kendrick Lamar is the first rapper to win the award since Pulitzers expanded to music in 1943. Lamar is also the first winner who is not a classical or jazz musician to win the prize.


Kendrick was not available immediately for comment, but his label took to Twitter to chime in. “I came, I saw, I conquered No shame, I blame all of this on Compton.” Other musicians have extended congratulations to Lamar.LL COOL J tweeted ” This makes me feel so good. I’m so proud of you @KendrickLamar onward and upward!!!!”.  Bruno Mars wrote “Congrats 2 @iamcardib on her #1 album  Congrats 2 @kendricklamar for winning The Pulitzer Congrats to @Beyonce for killin it @ Coachella .”
To date, Damn has has sold more than 3.5 million albums, including digital streams, since its release in April 2017.
